Blaspherion
“The Pain of Fire”
2006
7 tracks of old style kvlt black metal, the low quality mastery gives it an old Darkthrone/Emperor style atmosphere and the snarling black metal vocals are pure demonic. The short track lengths are reminiscent of other brutal/raw black metal bands like Archgoat, and the occasional use of piano/keyboard gives it a melodic feel at times as well as the dark song titles, satanic fast-picked majesty and raw grinding tone giving it the full black metal majesty. Simply put, the kind of raw black metal any true metal lover should have no problem getting into.

Blaspherion
“The Pain of Fire”
2006
Blaspherion is a Black Metal band from Georgia and this CD is a full length 7 tracks. When I first listened to this I was rather impressed. The First track titled “The Heart of Evil” had keys in the begging so it first tricked you thinking this was going to be a Melodic Black Metal band. But then it gets more into and you can hear the true raw part. As it continues with such as you keep listening to the CD. The only thing I could have done without was the squealing you hear now and then. However that is easily over looked with the awesome music that was produced. When you hear such titles as “Stench of Heaven in Flames” you just got to love this band. I would recommend everyone to check this Black Metal band Blaspherion.

“Dark Legend”
2009
This is Blaspherion's 2009 Demo CD called “Dark Legend” This CD has 5 tracks on it. This CD is just as good as their other recording in my opinion. I really enjoyed this band. Sometimes you don't know how good a band is until you hear more than one CD. I have now heard two of their recordings and I am totally convince that Blaspherion is a great Black Metal. All you fans of Black Metal please go and check out this. They have songs with such titles as “ “Seeds of the Apocalypse” and “Satanic Legions Arise” what else could you want.

Krew
“Demo 2010”
2010
The opening atmosphere gives the listener a very eerie feeling, use of acoustic guitar with the atomspheric reverb makes for a fantastic short opening track, very immersive black metal, thrashing snare-heavy drumming makes for a super fast feel, the vocal style along with the rhythmic guitar harmonies panned as far apart as possible make it a demo to listen to through either a high quality stereo or with good headphones on to enjoy the full range of black metal they offer. recorded and mastered with a mid-range quality so it's still reminiscent of the black metal masters such as Venom and early Bathory. Full of catchy rhythms you can't help but nod or tap along to, relatively short tracks mean the tracks aren't overly drawn out. The subject matter for the songs complete the experience. The end track has a slow melodic, almost depressive black metal feel to it that makes it a very feely track to end on just to get your emotions going before the demo ends, surely a repertoire that would appeal to any kvlt black metal lover without losing it's appeal over time.

Purgatory
“Cultus Luciferi- The Splendour of Chaos
2008
Purgatory a very effective cross between black and death metal leaning more towards death mixed with almost doomy atmosphere in some places and an abrupt tight feel in other places, showing some almost technical death influences from bands like Suffocation and with mixed high/low vocals. effective semi-melodic harmonies and high tempo rhythms make it easy to find yourself nodding along to. the short tracks make it brief without losing it's catchy appeal. appeals more to the death metal crowd than the black metal crowd, but overall a good album.

Purgatory
“Cultus Luciferi - The Splendour of Chaos”
2008
Purgatory is a Death Metal band from Germany and this CD is a Full length with 9 tracks. When I first uploaded this CD onto my computer I was rather confused on why I couldn't find it. I kept seeing this other band called “Hacci” something.... Well come to find it Purgatory just everything was labeled wrong. There music is very intense and brutal and get right into with the first track titled “Realm Of The Vortex”. The vocalist greets the audience with his growls but every now and then you will hear a scream in there. As you keep on listening to the music it seems to get more intense. And the drums are very fast as it goes along with each song. You definitely have to love these songs especially titles such as “Burial Of A Plague”, and “Red Prison” you can just imagine what they are about. I definitely recommend this checking this band out.

Nibelheim
“The Waiting Room”
2009
Nibelheim is a Thrash/Death Metal band from Italy and this is a Demo CD with 5 tracks. First listening to this CD the first track titled “These Decaying Walls” is an instrumental and very awesome one I must admit. Then by the 2nd track “Lunatic Asylum” it really gets into it. What a great name for a song as well. You can really hear the great guitar riffs going well the vocals and drumming in this CD. It is really awesome to hear a female doing Thrash vocals in this CD. The band is well organized and put together and shows it in this Demo CD. I do recommend this band for those of you who want to get a fix of some good Thrash Metal music.

Secrets She Kept
“La Fin Absolute du Monde”
2010
Secrets She Kept is a black metal band from Gainesville, Florida. When you first hear this band with the track Legion 666 you are pretty much hooked. The riffs are very well written and the drumming is really fast that you will start banging your head. The vocals aren't those really “screamy” type but just enough to make you love this band. The are an awesome band and I cant really say which songs I like the best but there are certain tracks that do stick out. Now do be alarmed just because the album name isn't in English doesn't mean the rest of is all foreign. That is the only track title that is in another language. But you cannot get any better than this with songs such as Flesh Eater and Undying. I definitely recommend this band to all you Black Metal fans out there.

Ouija
“Adversary” (MCD)
2010
Ouija, no messing around, no atmospheric intro to set the mood, Ouija get straight to the point with this one, the opening track is full of black metal rage that catches the listener's ears instantly, in one word, Awesome. the whole demo screams Black metal. Very catchy songs that are clearly inspired by the black metal legends from Immortal. the tone, riffs, harmonies drumming, vocals and atmosphere give it a feel that make it almost TOO easy to get into. Ouija display a talent for writing material that can be listened to repeatedly without getting old. this is black metal at it's best.

Ouija
“Adversary” (MCD)
2010
Ouija is an awesome black metal band from Spain. I have loved this band ever since the release of their first CD entitled “Riding Into The Funeral Paths” in 1997. It has been awhile since a new release but they haven't lost their touch. This is a MCD but is full of evil black metal in which we love so much. I just love Midgard vocals are so deep and not too much into screaming but just pure and evil magic. Each song on this CD has its own magic to it and the only bad part on this CD is the fact that it has 4 songs because you just want to hear more of their great music. What can you ask more from this Spanish Black Metal band with songs such as Flagellate Me and The Blood Centurion. This CD and this band is a must for all Black Metal and even Death Metal fans. Check them out for sure.

Fantastic melodic black metal with catchy riffs, good vocals and typical black metal drum patterns with regular fills that make it very easy music for any Kvlt black metal fan to get along with. Displaying influences from various black metal legends such as immortal, venom and dissection making it a fantastic combination of raw yet melodic black metal, truly inspirational black metal which left me wanting more.

Atra Hora which means “Black Hour” is a Russian Melodic Black/Death Metal band. They Open this CD up with Self Titled Track called “Atra Hora”. The thing I really enjoyed most is how every song sounds totally different. This band gives a doomy type feel, which I really love. Of course there are certain tracks that everyone will like a little more then others. I think for me on this 10 song CD the ones that stick out the most are songs such as: Holocaust, Nuclear December and War Under the Sign Of Baphomet. I would definitely recommend everyone to check out this band. They are awesome

“Psykosis”
2010
Psykosis is a Heavy Metal/Death Metal out of New York, not to be confused with the Thrash Metal band from Ireland. I love the way they have an intro song titled “New Beginnings”. That is a great way to start this 13 track Self titled CD. This band does their normal growling with some screams in there but not enough to be consider Black/Death Metal. The tracks that stick out the most to me are Buried Alive, Therapy and For Friends Long Lost. But all the other tracks are really good. This CD is is well produced. I would definitely recommend this band to all those Death Metal fans out there.

Then the 2nd track gets right into their music with their brutal vocals and blasting drumming. This is definitely a great band to check out. Certain tracks to check out are: Eternally Victimized, Human Failure and Storm the Capital. I hope that they coming out with a new CD soon as well.

Exhumed Day
“The Beauty of Putrefaction”
2012
In review of the album by Exhumed Day, called "The Beauty of Putrification.". i have found the music to be one of repetitive action throughout the album. The opening track would trick the listener into believing that the album was nothing but heavenly calm songs. Then on the second track, it feels as if your eyes and senses have been stripped of what they felt and in place of this once peaceful heaven is left a scene of destruction and gore. A sick and twisted world that screams out at you, the listener and tries to awaken the sick and twisted being inside you. At the end of the CD though, the once destructive plain of being on which you have been is once again replaced by the heavenly peaceful garden in which you were at the beginning of the album.

A Transylvanian Funeral
“The Outsider”
2010
12 tracks of mid and fast paced Black Metal from this one man band hailing from Tucson, Arizona USA. Although this release does have two slow tracks, for the most part this is fast and dark. Sleepwalker the brain behind the band handles all instruments. My only complaints about this album are the use of a piano which I can look past, and that the vocals are hard to hear sometimes. Other than that, this is a great release. I was really surprised and found myself wanting to stick my tongue out and head bang. The vocals are primitive and perfect for this release. The guitars sound great and each song has really good riffs. Sleepwalker is very talented. Cool song titles and a very underground looking front cover. I love all the sound effects and weird atmospheres created in “The Outsider”. A lot of dynamics make this album pretty well rounded. Think Swedish Black Metal. Sounds like 66 minutes of Black Metal magic to me!

“Forgotten”
2011
11 tracks of Metalcore and deathly thrash. A lot of times I am reminded of the band, The Haunted. Production on this album is great. Everything is mixed perfectly. This German outfit play some good thrashy and Metalcore songs, I am just not into this style that much. The guitar solos on the album are really great though. Even though this is not my style I will point out that the drummer is solid, the songwriting is okay, and the guitar and bass sound great. The vocalist is talented; I am just not a fan of this style. If you like Swedish and German Metalcore, this is definitely for you. Nothing original but nothing terrible.

“The Stranger End of Death”
2012
5 track EP from this Florida, USA based band. I must admit at the very first listen to this I was not interested at all. But then I listened again and again. It began to grow on me. The first revelation was the vocalist’s approach. Kind of reminds me of Suparation. Next I realized that Rich Hudson is a really solid drummer. Guitars and Bass are heavy and at times very well thought out and written. I will not lie and say that when the band goes Southern Metal or Metalcore that I do get turned off. Other than that, “The Stranger End of Death” is a decent release. The last 2 minutes of “Meaning of Life” is pretty heavy. “Death by Medicine” is definitely the best track on this. Lyrics on this release are intelligent. Lose the Metalcore and Southern parts and I’d be in awe. But to each their own.

“Kesakitan Abadi”

6 track release from this Malaysian black and thrash band. Sorry but I am not a fan of this. Too many of the songs sound too familiar to each other. Cradle of Filth is a big influence on this band. I do not like spoken word in songs by males or females. I will not be an asshole and say oh this bands sucks ass but I just am not into it. 3 out the 6 songs start with a mid-paced riff and the vocalists attempts a Devestation type of vocal lead in. Just doesn't work for me. I think with time and a few different influences maybe these guys could evolve a bit and change to get better. I will give Shah from the band credit for his perseverance.

Embrace of Thorns
“... For I see Death in Their Eyes”
2007
This is the debut from Embrace of Thorns hailing from Greece. They released their first demo in 1999. The music here is blackened death metal of the old raw, evil, and fast style with hints of war metal throughout. I really enjoyed this album and it actually brought back memories of the early 90's style of death metal and some black metal. In fact I would not mind adding this one to my collection. The album sounds like a bestial, unholy, demonic creature sweeping the world with death. It sounds like it was recorded in a cave or underground somewhere, which adds to all the other elements to create this evil debut album. The vocals are great, mostly demonic death metal but with occasional black metal style screams and ranges. The vocalist also does the drums as well. The drums are raw and blasting. The guitar riffs are evil and fast as well with a few small solo's that add depth to the songs. Some old school evil death metal breakdowns happen throughout the album as well to give that crushing evil edge and doom sound to some of the songs. I think the sound of the recording is perfect for this release. Its raw but not so raw that you can't hear anything.
I was going to review individual songs from this album but every song is a good song and they all fit the structure and concept of this album. So therefore I can't pick a favorite song. But some of the song titles are, 'Sempiternally Cursing the Weak', 'Tyrant Goat (Crowned in Glory)', and 'Throes of Doubt,Flames of Despair'. Classic style song titles.
The CD released by 'Kill Yourself Productions', in 2009, is limited to 1000 copies. So it might be difficult finding this later on unless it gets a reissue. I think the only disadvantage of this album is that its not long enough. It clocks in at about 31 minutes between 8 songs. That might be a good thing though since the album could never drag on at that length. So, if you like raw, evil, fast, old-school, war-like, death metal then you might like this. At least check it out!

RAN
“Doomsday Eve - Live Album”
2011
Ran is a black/trash band from the Netherlands that formed in 2008. But the idea's for this band have been in the making since 1991 when the vocalist/bassist was in the underground Icelandic scene. They released one demo previous to this release. This album is raw and sounds like it should have been released in the early 90's. The vocals are the grim spoken type, in the vein of Immortal or old Inquisition. So not the typical grim screams. The music is old school style of black/trash. Not the fast or technical style of today's scene. I would like to hear more from this band since this album is almost too raw to make out some parts of the songs. There are 3 introductions within this album stating the next song title. And the length of the album is about 25 minutes with 9 songs. I wish I could hear the guitars better since they are very hard to hear a lot in this album. And the production makes the drums sound sloppy. So, all in all, good live show, but the production on this release is not that good at all making it hard to get into if your not familiar with their music. I will await their full length debut before I completely judge them, specially being a huge fan of black/thrash myself.

Blaspherian
"Infernal Warriors of Death"
2011
Death metal from Houston, Texas which started in 2004. This is actually their first debut, though previously they released some demo's, splits, and EPs. Though I don't listen to much death metal these days I would have to say this album is pretty good. 8 songs for a total of about 36 minutes of heavy and evil death metal. It ranges from slow to fast, with a old school type feeling to it. I like the guitar work on this album. Many good riffs, specially on my favorite song of the album, 'Exalted in Unspeakable Evil'. There are no solo's in this album, but that’s no big deal. The album flows so that you don't even think about it. The drums are descent, I heard no flaws. Nothing extremely technical or insane, but still good and complete sounding. The only complaint I have with this album is the vocals. Which sound too mediocre to me. They should have made them more evil or demonic sounding. That would have made the album a step above what it is now. But once again that just my opinion. The production has a good raw sound, which I think is imperative for death metal. Also, no keyboards used at all. Overall, this is a good death metal album for the year 2011. Way better then the latest trend of this genre. I would buy it. So my review being for a death metal album would give this a 7.

Unholy Death Cunt
“Fuck You”
2011
Here is some raw black metal from Scotland. Its good to hear a band like this from this country, since personally I have not heard much from Scotland over the years. This album is 5 songs running at almost 18 minutes and is limited to 300 copies as a demo. The 5th song is a Mayhem cover of their "Funeral Fog" song.
Starting with the production, this album is raw but still sounds good. In fact I love the production and it reminds me of early 90's style underground black metal. As raw as it is you can still hear everything and its mixed together great. The rawness creates that barbaric and evil background.
The guitars have a little diversity to them, most of the time they are straight forward black metal riffing but sometimes you would hear some thrash elements which is good sounding and plain evil guitars with some nice solo's. Nothing highly technical, but thats good for this style! Many parts get my blood going. Specailly the song "Satanic Massacre", which is my favorite on this album.
The drums range from mid-paced to fast. Nothing technical, but still good and sometimes barbaric.
The vocals range as well, sometimes high-pitched black metal, barbaric grunts, to grim spoken style vocals. I don't care too much for the really high-pitched style they use and thats my only complaint for this album. But besides that I really like this album and am looking forward to an actual release which I heard is coming soon. It is very pleasing to still hear bands creating music like this in 2011. So I am eagerly awaiting their new album to hear what they come up with next. I give them a high review for such a good demo for the year 2011.

Absvrdist is a grind-core band out of the San Antonio area. This 15 track full-length has some really short songs as well as some instrumentals. Not used to hearing instrumental songs in a grind-core band. This makes them very unique. Even though this type of music isn't my main music choice I must say I really enjoyed listening to the album. Druid Lord
“Hymns For The Wicked”
2010
So here I have before me is Druid Lord's 2010 release "Hymns for the Wicked". Upon spinning this the first time, I am instantly brought back to a better place when music wasn't overly processed and you can tell what everyone is playing! Their brand of Death & Doom is both refreshing and familiar, taking you on musical journey where the mission is to live by the riff and not overcrowd with useless notes. One band that came to mind was early Acheron, and after doing some investigation, turns out two of the members did some time in said band in the early nineties. Truely not a bad thing! Some of the best and more influential bands came out of that time! Enough with the flashbacks for now.........if you are into bands such as Cianide, Runemagick, Acheron even a slower Morbid Angel, I think Druid Lord will appeal to fans of both doom and death metal old and new!!

In my ears is Cadaveria's 2012 release "Horror Metal". First off, I would like to say this kind of music isn't normally my thing. However, I do find myself able to listen to this without skipping songs! They jump between gothic, black and even some straight out chunky metal. I am quickly reminded of Madder Mortem, Lacuna Coil and Arch Enemy......mostly in the vocal department. I'll keep this around when I'm in the mood for this style of music.

Brand new release "The Suffered Testament" by Florida's own Ebullition.........what to say, what to say, oh right! It's damn good!! This easily reminds my of the better days of Florida death metal. Burning Fair Verona
“Dynasty”
“2012”
First things first.....I hate breakdowns and I hate bass drops!! This CD from Burning Fair Verona entitled "Dynasty" features these things in five out of six songs. The intro, however, has bass pulses in it. Now for the non-biased part of the review. Overall I would say that the production is pretty good. Too many bands are over produced, removing the human element. The drums are a bit processed, but doesn't kill the overall effect of the songs. These guys do have talent, I won't argue that, but they find themselves in the same repetitive circle as all the other "core" type bands. I noticed that clean vocals snuck into two of the tracks. The first one was alright....kinda one-note in delivery. The other, there was a bit of harmony going on......I dug it. I'm a sucker for a good harmony part! Capitalize on that, focus on the riff and remove some breaks and drops, might have something! This style is not my thing but I could still give it a 7/10 based on ability and production.

Burning Fair Verona
“Dynasty”
2012
After listening to this CD I really could not distinguish it from so many others of the same/like sound. Too many breakdowns and bass drops hit me immediately. But after the second spin I found I liked the more extreme vocals and guitar riffs hearing some old Fear Factory and newer Carcass(vocals). In some areas I also recognized the drummer had some fast feet and tom work which I think should be used more in their future recordings. Overall, I give this EP a 6/10 and leave with this suggestion. Pull away from the norm in this type of music and build on your more extreme attributes.

“The Incursion”

So, being a lover of black metal, I was not disappointed in this release from Dominium. The Satyricon-like vocals and vocal phrasings were the first thing that got my attention. Then came the timing ...especially on #4 "With Blade, Kingdom Conceived"....that gave me that out of control feeling that good black metal does. “Legions Of The North”

I can't help it.....I love black metal! It's probably the first metal sub-genre that felt just right to me. Like any music, however, there is good and there is bad. This is not in any way near the bad pile! I enjoy and appreciate the fact that this is a one-man band! There is the typical BM framework, no doubt, but the delivery is what counts. I'm digging the transitions from speed picking thrashy tempos to frantic blasts with melody laid on top of it.

Black metal lovers again this week we have reason to rejoice. In what you ask...I will answer by telling you about this tasty release. Fjorsvartnir's, Legion of the North, is what I am talking about. The first thing that made me listen to this several times is that it is a one man project. I only noticed a few timing issues but as a whole this production is very well done. Hordes of Decay
“The Kings Will Be Ready”
2012
The first thing I thought when I heard this release from Hordes of Decay "The Kings Will Be Ready", they sound Greek. Upon further investigation, my instincts were right! They remind me of an earlier Rotting Christ or even Septic Flesh. There were a lot of cool moments in this CD. I also found a couple parts that seemed less cohesive. “The Kings Will Be Ready”

Reviewing this release,The Kings Will Be Ready, by the band Hordes of Decay brought a mixed reaction from me. Of course I liked it because it was black metal and it had great driving moments. It also had a few areas that just didn't seen to fit and brought the song out of its element. My favorite songs on this CD were track 8 and 9 as the true black metal feeling was most represented here.

2011
Faethom's full length release, "In the Name of the Father, the Son, and the Unholy"......I mean, what more do you want? That should sum it up!.............Clearly this is a concept album from start to finish. It is a clever story (which you have to find out yourself. I won't spoil it.) with multiple characters and facets of metal entwined through it. Fans of thrash and black metal will enjoy this as will fans of symphonic and traditional heavy metal! It's a win win situation! If you don't have it, get it. Got it? Good! Do yourself a favor, go see them live.....tell 'em Andrew sent ya!!

Faethom
“In the Name of the Father, the Son, and the Unholy”
2011
Faethom....easily defined as a ball of creativity that has so many different influences you can be overwhelmed at times. From the battering black metal to the thrash and even some progressive moments found throughout this band will keep keep your attention. After listening to their CD "In the Name of the Father,The Son, and The Unholy...I let my brain relax before assessing what I just experienced. Mariela Muerte does justice to her black metal vocals. She also uses her clean vocals to bring out the madness depicted in this production. To see this band live is like going to a macabre musical with each member of the band having their own insanely unique character. This band has some of the best musicians I have had the pleasure of meeting and they put 100% into their shows. In short...you need to see it to believe it!! I give this CD an 8/10.....I give their live performance..well you decide, but be prepared to let your mind take in the darkness.

Inferion
“Aborted by the Sun”
2012
Inferion's "Aborted by the Sun" E.P. was released this year, though I found out it was originally recorded back in 2003 under a different band name. The files were damaged and so forth, but by chance a back-up disk was found. The songs underwent some rerecording, remixing and remastering. I think it is safe to say that this CD is an example of where Inferion came from. The songs don't feel completely solid. In some cases the music is a little thin, while other times there is a bit much going on. I am aware of what Inferion is capable of these days, and even though this didn't quite hit me right, stick around and check out them out these days!

Inferion
“Aborted by the Sun”
2012
The EP Aborted by the Sun released by Inferion didn't really show me much. It seemed generic in some of the music phrasings and not as original as I thought it might be. I believe when this EP was done, the band was trying to figure ouy what direction they wanted to go and in my opinion they did finally find their path. This EP was the beginning of a better band and as everyone knows, sometimes bands go through many ideas until they become who they truly are.

Inferion
“The Desolate”
2012
Inferion's new full length "The Desolate" which was released early this year, brought a smile to my face! It is filled with nasty vocals, blistering drums, and evil guitars and bass! I reviewed an older E.P. from them which is night and day compared to this. It's a bit old school and new black metal wrapped up with a little melody thrown in the mix......If they keep this up, I'll keep listening!!

Inferion
“The Desolate”
2012
Inferion's release, The Desolate, is what I believe is the band's true path. Their musicianship is truly represented . Great black metal riffs and overall production from both members. Heard some other genres poking through in some of the songs but overall this band kept it black and was much appreciated by me. I give this release a 7.5/10 and hope the band continues on its present course.

Armageddon III
“EP & The Warning”
2012
Armageddon III, from Palatka, Florida, is a three-piece experimental metal band with no guitarist! They have a newer metal flare ala a simplified Slipknot (more in the vocals) and Coal Chamber (the bass) with some cleaner moments reminding me of a "diet" Lacuna Coil. Both the self-titled E.P. and their CD "The Warning" are pretty close in musical content. The Warning, however, shows the band tightening their already interesting sound and a better production.
Since the similarities in end products, I felt it safe to review them together.

Armageddon III
“EP & The Warning”
2012
Armageddon III is a unique band who puts there spin on some of the newer metal sounds. The three vocal mix bounces me from Evanescence to Slipknot as does some of the music phrasing. The bass keeps a pattern to follow while samples are thrown in to give the music more character. The drummer is the driving force in this band going full force in both the Self Titled EP and there first full length release The Warning. He is a hard hitter who makes sure you are paying attention. This band has great potential and is already making its mark in Florida.

Inmate
“Free At Last”
2012
The band Inmate and their CD "Free at Last" was pretty well received in these ears. A band from Slovenia, playing their take on Swed-death-thrash......hmm. Ok, it works....especially with a very clean production! From the quite capable musicians, to the harsh vocals which give a hardcore vibe and the clean vox which are right on, this is a satisfying listen! Fans of Dark Tranquility and In Flames will enjoy this.

“Free At Last”
2012
Inmate, from Slovenia, is a band I do think every metalhead should give a listen. Their CD, Free At Last is a great listen for those who like the Swedish Thrash sound. The balanced mix they produced between the harsher vocals and the harmonizing along with the overall musical mayhem you get swept up in made this a tight production. I hope to hear more from them in the future.

Helmsplitter
“Storms of Genocide”
2011
Upon listening to Illinois' own Helmsplitter, I wasn't sure exactly where they were heading. One minute they are death metal, the next they have a blackened vibe. Further on, they even touch on some punk and then what we call here "swamp groove" ala Soilent Green! The way it sounds you think I'm going to bash these guys.........nah, not at all! I say keep 'em guessing! I enjoy when a band can change things up within a CD, much less the same song! Keep it going and I'll keep listening!!

Crown ov Horns
“Infernvs Dominatvs”
2011
Crown ov Horns, from Malaysia play an interesting blend of extreme metal. To me, they sound between mid-nineties U.S blackened death and older Behemoth. This CD will easily pummel the listener, especially at loud volumes! I do wish there was a bit more bass in the mix and less click on the kick drums. However, if everyone had a "perfect recording", we'd all be playing in mainstream metal bands.....the hell with that!

Unblessed
“Man Has Killed God”
2010
Unblessed from Chile released a CD called Man has Killed God. It's good. In fact it's damn good!! I've spun this CD a lot lately. The production is clear but not over polished. The musicians are quite capable at creating some fine audio terror. Both catchy and brutal, if these guys keep going this way, I see some very good things happening!!

Unblessed
“Man Has Killed God”
2010
"Man Has Killed God" is an impressive release from the Chilean band UNBLESSED. It hits the ground running with mad riffs, searing vocals, and chaotic drums. I have to say I had to listen to this CD a few times just to wrap my head around everything. Once the music started there wasn't,in my mind, time to breathe. Their overall blackened/death sound was great, but not too polished which I really appreciate. When a band holds on to that raw sound in their overall production, the music keeps its true meaning. This band has that raw sound mixed into this well performed release. I hope to hear more from them in the future, and would like the metal community to give this a listen.

Archaic Winter
“Demon”
2012
Up on the listener's block is "Demon" a four song E.P. from North Carolina's/Peru's Archaic Winter. First of all, it is safe to say that this hits home in two ways. I come from a black metal background and my main band has utilized a drum machine since 2006! This is some pretty cool raw USBM! It's not raw as in "marbles in the blender"......everything is audible, just not polished. That's fine. It's how it should be! At some point, I'd like to get a hold of some of their other releases. For fans of Behexen and Sargeist (which of course are not USBM!).

Fondlecorpse
“Creaturegore”
2009
Fondlecorpse is a death metal band from The Netherlands. These guys surprised me with the amount of cool riffs. Some of the tracks, such as "Hideous" really sound pretty generic to me but there are a few pretty badass songs on here. Ghoulish tales is fucking great. I can hear definite Influence from Chuck Shuldiner in the leads throughout the album.(with a couple of Kerry King influenced solos) "The Nightbreed" has a very cool lead section just under the 3 minute mark, which is surprising because of the rest of the song is pretty cookie cutter.
There are a couple of things I really like about this band. The bass is very prominent in the mix, the drummer and guitarists are very technically skilled,(not that it exactly matters how skilled they are, but they are professional for sure) According to the metal archives(and yes there is a ton of misinformation that floats around there) the vocalist since 1996 has reformed the band since 2012 with all new members. This is a pretty solid album and a good effort from Fondlecorpse. Sure, some of the album is pretty generic but the rest is pretty good! I am interested in hearing more from this band, but it seems the members from this album are no longer with the vocalist. That's kind of a shame.

Abnormal Inhumane
“Disgusting Cruelty of Homicide”
2011
These guys hail from Greece. They kind of remind me of a less technical Decapitated. This album is brutal as fuck actually. . I REALLY like the songs "Murder" and "Insolent Compulation" There are some very heavy riffs in this album. The drumming is superb. "Mitch", according to the metal-archives is an extremely badass drummer. Sadly, there are some super boring riffs in this album as well. Some of it starts to get pretty repetitive, but only with the boring riffs! The cool ones always seem to be short-lived for some reason. However, this album is much better than I expected. It is a pretty good effort. I just wish they could have spent more time on some of the songs, as far as arrangement.

Schattenfang
“Abgründe”
2012
Schattenfang is a Raw/Depressive black metal band from Germany. Yep, we've all heard what DSBM has to offer yet these guys are a little different. The intro is very cool, with rain and a cool riff that builds up. "Kalt" reminds me a lot of old Burzum, and it is very awesome. "Mentale Disharmonie" begins with a another very cool riff, then Immediately starts a cool tremolo picking part and that pretty much continues for the whole song, but there are some cool changes too. By this point I wouldn't call them depressive black metal very much... They claim to be raw/depressive black metal, I don't think I would call them "raw"... maybe somewhat depressive. The LLN bands were raw. Moonblood was raw. This sounds like it could have been done in a studio. That's my only gripe with these guys. Don't call yourself "raw" when you're clearly not. Aside from that, these guys kick ass! Very good riffing that reminds me of early Burzum. The vocals are good as well. The guitars should be higher in the mix, in my opinion. I am interested in what these guys will release next.

Petrichorus
“Beyond the Ancient Bluffs”
2012
This band has a very nice intro to the song Portents of the Decay. Nice and melodic with great harmonies. and a slow crescendo breaking off to the main riff. The synth's are very well done, and not cheesy like so many other bands seem to pull off and feel content with. This so far feels like a mellow sonnet that would be very nicely mixed with some marijuana and several beers. OK so at the start I felt this was going to explode into a metal homage but it fell short to me. Although it was a great instrumental work. Golden Age was also instrumental but well done for its genre. I would not call them metal at all I would more or less classify them as instrument ambient synth and fantasy. I would almost expect to hear this music on the soundtrack to Braveheart. I wish the best to this group and hope they can succeed in their chosen style of exhilarating music. If you like instrumental ambiance then check this band out it will leave you feeling sedated and satisfied.

Kataklysm
“Heaven's Venom”
2010
Amen to Kataklysm one of the most brutal technical death metal bands ever to grace the music industry. With hard hitting guitar riffs, bass that is spot on with harmonies with the percussion, and the percussion that makes you just want to brutally murder a pregnant nurse! I am telling you this band has what most so called death metal bands lack... dedicated to perfection. They have yet to release a song that in my eyes did not suck. Sure some of the songs are a bit mellow but with the guitar and percussion you cannot beat it. The vocals are spot on as well with awesome ranges in harmonics. This is a band that could be the poster band for what death metal should be. The tracks Determined, 1999:6661:2000, The REnnisance, and Blood in Heaven, are just a few of their hard hitting songs that will leave you begging for more ear raping. If you are a purveyor of death metal this band will leave you smoking a cigarette as if you just had sex with something other than your hand at a Metallica show.

Gorgoroth
“Quantos Possunt ad Satanitatem Trahunt”
2009
Gorgoroth is not my favorite black metal band but they have some really well constructed music. Possessed is my favorite song and right now this review is based on that and Human Sacrifice. They have a good start to this song pretty standard in music. Nice lead guitar and vocals that are crunchy and high pitch but still understandable well to my honed ear drums. This song does for some reason make me wish I had killed Euronymous, as it fills my heart with a hate that I have not yet really seen since combat in Iraq. Their dedication to the genre has also set them apart from some other black metal acts giving them credibility to not being sell outs like so many others in this style of metal. I really enjoy listening to them when I have the opportunity, and would gladly play them on my radio station.

Drogheda
“Thug Anarchitect”

I have listened to this band for some time, and its kinda grindcore to me. I really enjoy them a lot like the ranks of Cephalic Carnage. These guys do a great set of albums, songs, and shows. If you want something super extreme and crunch, and vile, and sure to satisfy your carnal need for brutal music, then this is the band for you. Master Nihilist is a great song by these guys although a bit short i still enjoyed it very much while writing this review. I would say this band is underrated. Northern Oak
“Monuments”
2010
The start of the song Gawain by this band is kinda of fantasy and melodic. I am enjoying this. This again makes me feel like i am in Braveheart or some other European battle film about the medieval times. Then the vocals kick in and oh yes nice the percussion is dead on key and time. The harmony with the bass is great. The guitars are amazing, and I think that is a flute i am not sure but it sure sounds great. Wow is all i can say about this band! Gawain is a great work of poetry and music at its best. The vocals are a bit low and hard to understand but at the same time it kind of just goes along with the flow of the performance. The synths are a good bit too in their songs, and not overwhelming but just the right portrayal to make it fit slightly into a fantasy world. I would image myself being whisked away on a unicorn into the netherworld while drinking my brew to this song.

Inhumate
“The 5th Season”
2009
This band/song was a bit short but hard hitting. Very low guttural growls. If you cannot understand it then it is because you are not from planet Vulcan. This almost sounds like someone playing inside a trash can. It is well done not to say it is horrible but it is kind of nice for people into this style. I prefer to be able to understand what is being said. This is kind of like listening to the USA version of Disgorge. Not exactly what I would play on my extreme radio station but a close 4th. I cannot really say much more about this band I think they should check into working at a car wash or maybe a gas station? I am an honest person when it comes to reviews and I can appreciate all genres of music but this is utter horse poopie.

Okay this band started out kind of funky then 15 seconds in it gets a bit better. but still kind of archaic in tune. but 30 seconds in it gets really good and brutal. kind of like hmm.. dying fetus in an aspect. great percussion vocals, and guitar riffs. This song would be good to go on a deployment mission in Iraq. I feel it would lead the troops to pure victory no matter where they were deployed! \m/ this is really good stuff very short song but still very well done. I think if you like death metal at all weather it be brutal or otherwise check this out. Sanguinary Misanthropia
“Diabolic Gnosis”
2010
Sanguinary Misanthropia is a black metal band from Australia. When I hear the first song, "A Glimpse of the Image of Lucifer Gleaming Beyond the Subterraneous Black Sun" I just hear sloppy-ish blast-beats and really annoying riffs at first. Around the two minute mark it starts to sound better but then it gets worse again. I'm not one to diss bands very much but these guys kind of... well, don't really sound too good in my opinion.(judging by this release) The slower parts are very cool on the other hand. Too bad they are short lived. I mean, I know it's supposed to be "Gnostic Chaos" and all but I really find a lot of these riffs to be annoying. For one, there are like a million riffs scattered throughout each song. I would consider this a mediocre release. Most bands you think... "ahha! Burzum worship!" or "Darkthrone worship!" or "Emperor worship!" but I fail to hear anything even remotely similar in this band, which is a good thing, you would think... I hear a lot of death metal elements in this release. It almost sounds as if they are trying too hard or something.

Black Crow King
“To Pay Debt Of Nature”
2012
Black Crow King is apparently a one man project and the person behind this project remains a mystery as their official facebook and myspace pages list no names for members or country of origin even. What I can tell you is that To Pay The Debt Of Nature is their debut release out now on the indie record label badGod music. I have listened to this thing and it is 6 very long tracks ( 8 to 12 minutes each) of very down tempo experimental doom/black metal. Not a very upbeat record I can tell you it crawls along at a snails pace with lots of distorted noise, industrial Trent Reznor sounding background music but without the drum machines. The vocals are straight up black as black metal can get but the background music is so slow and trippy that its very hard to get in to. It would probably be some good music to play in a really dark and creepy walk through haunted house or some music that would induce a very very bad acid trip, lol. Can't say I really enjoyed this one but If they would speed things up a bit or add some regular song structure with more distorted guitars then there would be something to grab my attention but as it is in this stage of the mystery person or person's procect, if I were you I would pass this one up unless you are just a glutton for punishment or want something to listen to while performing some bloody black mass ritual.

Lago
“Marianas ”
2010
LAGO are a four piece death metal band out of Phoenix Arizona with the vocalist also doubling as a guitar player. The release I am listening to is Marianas out on Pale Horse Records. It's a five song EP and is straight up death metal, influenced by the old school bands from the 90's. I am all about some death metal and these guys deliver, with low tuned crunchy guitar, blast beats on drums, and death metal vocals that rang from the low end growls to high end howls that dance along the black metal borderline.
I am a lover of the Florida death metal faves such as Death, Obituary, and Morbid Angel and I can hear influences from all three of these icons in Lago's music, the most prominent being Morbid Angel I would have to say, but early Morbid Angel specifically. And don't think they are just copycats because they take the early Morbid Angel sound and bring it in to the twenty first century and make it their own.
Track one is called Marianas and starts off at an uptempo pace featuring a short bass guitar solo moment, followed by some blistering guitar work at break neck speed, with a slower bridge with a doom feel to it, and then wash, rinse and repeat from there. Song number two, Youma, takes you down a winding road of crunchy guitars and low, low death metal vocals that go from sounding like Dethklok to Burzum. Track three entitled Arbitrary Conflict is a blistering track that makes you want to bob your head and throw up the devil horns with the high pitched black metal style vocals screaming at you from behind a wall of straight up death metal madness, great song. Center Of A Wounded Nation is track four and is a nice little hate-filled anthem featuring several tempo changes and a nice guitar solo. Track five is called Headless/Heartless and starts of a little doom laden with alternating vocal styles leading into a slow, groovy doom laden chorus/breakdown and ends rather quickly.
Very cool band and I wish they had a larger catalog of music for fans to enjoy and I urge them to continue doing what they are doing.

Dirigiri
“Dirigiri”
2013
Dirigiri are a two man monstrous sounding Death/thrash metal project out of San Antonio, TX. The bands name come's from the name dirge in Latin , which is a hymn of death. And their debut EP, which is self-titled ,is aptly named considering it contains five blistering death metal tracks that are sure to appeal to fans of Obituary and Morbid Angel. The songs are shorter than your average track lengths and very well produced. The drum and guitar work on this release is both tight and out of control sounding at the same time, while backing low classic death metal sounding vocals.
1.Death By The Hands Of An Angel/ This one is a two minute long hammering tune that will get your fist pumping immediately and is inspired lyrically by some of the same themes as Creeping Death by Metallica.
2.Bone Collector/This two and a half minute assault on the ear drums must be played at full volume and shares it's name with a favorite book of mine by Jeffery Deaver (movie wasn't nearly as good as book, just sayin')
3.Riot/ This sadistic tune is a stand out track with that's well put together and features the talent of the guitarist and adds a little hardcore styled vocals to boot. Will induce devil horns.
4.Boiled In Blood/ This song is a bit longer than the others clocking in at four minutes and has a very thrash inspired feel to it and will appeal to fans of earlier Sepultura aka Arise. Very cool tune for sure.
5.Toilet Extermination/ The band may have saved the best for last as this song literally explodes out of your speakers in a punk fueled fury that makes you want to get up and mosh or at least break something. This track got my blood pumping faster than a can of Red Bull could ever dream of and shows off a very Exploited style influence and makes me give it four horns up!
So check out DIRIGIRI and their self titled release as soon as you can and if you like death metal then you are sure to like these guys just as much I do, so till next time........\,,/

Exekute
“Doomsday Mourning”
2013
"release the vapors into the air, inhale and suffocate in the despair"
Do you love death metal like I do? How about old school Florida death metal from the likes of Death and Obituary? It doesn't get any better than that right? But it does get just as good! The band Exekute are from Sydney Australia and even though its a long way from Florida they share a lot in common with our legends of death from here in the states. Their sound for one, I haven't been so stoked about a straight up death metal release in quite some time now. And after speaking with their guitarist Elias Niahos I found out that listening to Florida death metal inspired him to write the music found on Doomsday Mourning, their four song EP and debut release out just this month of April 2013 on Grindhouse records.
The music on Doomsday is amazing and sounds amazing partly in thanks to legendary guitar man James Murphy of the bands Death and Testament! Yup, these guys got them a true guru to mix their debut and it really shows in the overall sound I can tell you. When I asked Exekute guitarist Elias about working with such a legend he told me that it was a "Very smooth and professional experience overall considering he is in Florida and I'm in Sydney. It started off as a professional mastering services relationship but I did have the odd Skype call and numerous chats on Facebook. We are good friends now. Its amazing having someone so influential in early death metal to make our product what it is and sound as good as it does.
Every slight detail from a sound engineering perspective that I didn't understand , he would fill me in about in basic English so I can fully grasp the mastering progression . A true professional. And having long conversation about each others culture , his early days working at aces records and working with chuck in death and cancer (the band) later on , to guitar conversations and then onto conversations about various things . He's a true pro and a gentleman. Someone I have major respect for and call a friend who I hope to meet in person."
Man after talking to Elias you can tell the love and respect that he has for the American death metal legend and for the music also and it shines through. You can see on recent posts on James Murphys own page that he is excited about the release of Doomsday Morning himself and yes I was excited to get my hands on a copy too for sure.
The other members of Exekute that I have not mentioned yet are Fred Jaya (Vocals),Adrian Williamson (Guitar),Jeremiah Dombek (Bass),and George Delinicolis (Drums).
The first track on Doomsday mourning is basically a minute and a half intro that is classic riffing and up tempo drumming with a doom feel leading into the song that's listed as track 2 entitled H.A.A.R.P. which is so brutal, heavy and crunchy, definitely bringing both Death and Obituary to mind and Fred Jaya's apocalyptic vocals are positively frightening and beautifully brutal at the same time. Such a pleasure to listen to. Death metal done right and the way it should be.
The third song is called Genetic monstrosity and starts out with some groove laden riffage and then off with a bang only to get faster. This hate filled anthem pummels the ear drums and showcases Georges timekeeping skills on the double bass and features a cool guitar solo to boot.
And finally we come to our closing track entitled Necrotic Debauchery which actually features a pretty hook laden chorus and the vocals that really stand out on this one sounding very black metal and death metal at the same time, and the break down in the middle of this song is to die for! It even comes with some old fashioned grindcore pig squealing and guttural vocals at the end that just leaves you pissed off that it's the last song! I want to hear more! Exekute are you listening? Make more music!
I can't say enough good things about this band and this release. I want a t-shirt to sport around in for sure, If you don't have a copy of Doomsday Mourning yet and you really love death metal.....GET ONE!
These guys are both new and fresh but have produced what sounds like an instant classic. Dig it! .......\,,,/ here is a link to the bands fb page below
