Sorrowseed

Nemesis Engine”

2013

sorrowseed cover

Here we have the latest release from Boston, Massachusetts’ own Sorrowseed, this being their 4th full length and sounding as fresh and brutal as they were on previous releases.

Sorrowseed play Blackened/Gothic Metal in the COF/Moonspell vein as I have mentioned before in other reviews of this promising band.

They have upped the ante so to speak on this release, the vocals are a lot more vicious than previous works and a lot more up front in the mix, the screams are ear bleeding, the growls could probably come from the pits of Hell and the overall sheer musicianship is second to none.

The melody lines are well thought out, the songs flow and this just flies by and there is plenty of re play value here. There is some female clean singing in parts but these are kept to a minimum on the album.

Again I was pleased to see this, I would love to see how this comes over in a live setting in person, if they sound this good on record then live should be quite the spectacle.

Great album which demands more attention, recommended!!!!

Sorrowseed

The Descent of the Scarab Prophet”

2012

Sorrowseed - The Descent of the Scarab Prophet

Having reviewed Sorrowseed before I was quite pleased to see this pop into my inbox and was looking forward to some more Blackened/ Gothic Metal and on this opus they deliver.

With this release Sorrowseed seem more feral and a lot more aggressive in their delivery and the tracks flow seamlessly through out the album.

Tracks like ” The Golden Plague” could easily have appeared on any Moonspell album and not be out of place. Like before the Cradle Of Filth comparisons are ever prevalent especially in the vocal delivery and with the guitar work, again if you like mid period COF you will feel right at home with this band, The Dani Filth-esque banshee screams are pretty blood chilling and delivered with venom.

I would love to see this band picked up by a major label and given the chance to really show their might, there is an air of urgency about this band and they seem quite consistent with what they are putting out to the masses. Recommended for fans of COF, Moonspell and bands of similar ilk.

Sorrowseed

Dread Sylvan Summonings”

2012

Sorrowseed - Dread Sylvan Summonings

It’s not very often I come across many really good Blackened/ Gothic/ Doom Death outfits such as Sorrowseed and this was quite the corker of an album, allow me to intrigue you further …

Hailing from Boston, Masslackened/Gachusetts there is plenty on offer here which touched through the many gen album nres of Metal.

You have the low end growls, Dani Filth-esque banshee screams in there (don’t let that put you off because believe me these are done well), some beautiful female clean singing appears and fits well amongst the proceedings, haunting guitars and atmospheric keyboard work and tie all this in with a good, crisp production and you have a nice flowing album.

There are a lot of similarities to Moonspell and Cradle of Filth in the music and vocal department but Sorrowseed carve out their own unholy identity, tracks such as Famine Storm display their Cradle-isms in full effect ( think Midian era COF),

Definitely pick this up and submerse yourself in the tracks within, this is another good addition to the Blackened Gothic stable. Recommended!
